Dexur analysts conducted a study of Galveston County hospitals that discharged Medicare inpatients with red blood cell disorders and found that Houston Methodist St. John Hospital had the lowest average length of stay for both 30-day episode of care for all inpatients and 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions at 3.84 and 3.14 days, respectively. This hospital was the only major Galveston County hospital to have both 30-day episode of care length of stay metrics under 4 days. Bay Area Regional Medical Center ranked 2nd for average LOS with unplanned readmissions at 3.94 days. For 30-day episode of care for all inpatients, University of Texas Medical Branch ranked 2nd with a LOS nearly 1 day greater than Houston Methodist St. John Hospital at 4.78 days. The top five hospitals in both categories were the same but in a different ranking order.
