A recent Dexur analysis of Medicare inpatient spine data indicates that Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence reported the lowest average length of stay (LOS) for spinal fusion discharges out of all major hospitals in Alabama between 2013-2016 at 1.78 days. East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika ranked 2nd with a 1.82 day average length of stay, Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery ranked 3rd with a 1.84 day average LOS and Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham ranked 4th at 1.9 days. These were the only four hospitals in the state with an average length of stay under 2 days for spinal fusion discharges. The 5th ranked hospital during the four year period was Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, which accounted for a 2.36 day average LOS.
