The University of Chicago Medical Center Discharged the Lowest Percentage of Medicare Patients with Cardiac Valve and Other Major Cardiothoracic Procedures to SNFs with a Rate of 13.04%

An analysis of CMS Medicare claims data by Dexur revealed that seven Illinois hospitals had SNF discharge rates for cardiac valve and other major cardiothoracic procedures without cardiac catheterization below the national average of 18.47%, the lowest of which was found at The University of Chicago Medical Center. This facility discharged only 13.04% of Medicare patients with this classification to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). OSF St. Francis Medical Center ranked a close 2nd with a SNF discharge rate of 13.50%, while the 3rd ranked Rush University Medical Center discharged 14.61% of these cardiac patients to SNFs. St. John’s Hospital and Memorial Medical Center tied for 4th with a rate of 15.32%. Rounding out the top seven were Northwestern Medicine Central Dupage Hospital at 16.67% and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital at 18.03%.
