According to a Dexur analysis, Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens had a 3.24 day average length of stay (LOS) for a 30-day episode of care for Medicare inpatient diabetes discharges, the lowest rate of any Alabama hospital between 2013-2016. This was 1.96 days lower than the 5.2 day average for Alabama Medicare enrollees. Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman ranked 2nd at 3.61 days and Russell Medical Center in Alexander City ranked 3rd at 3.71 days. Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma ranked 4th at 3.9 days while UAB Hospital in Birmingham ranked 5th with a 3.96 day rate. These were the only five hospitals in the state with a 30-day episode of care average LOS below 4 days.
