Dexur’s analysis of CMS administrative claims indicated that Dr. Hendrik Schultz of Mercy Medical Center - Dubuque led the state in skin infection discharge volume with 41 total discharges between January 2013 and December 2016. He was the only physician practicing in the state of Iowa to have more than 40 discharges for the four-year period. A fellow physician at Mercy Medical Center - Dubuque, Dr. Michael B. Kuennen, ranked 2nd in the state in terms of discharge volume. Although discharge volume does not necessarily reflect the quality of care a physician provides their patients with, it may suggest which physicians have more experience with treating skin infections.
