Dexur’s analysis of Medicare claims data for hospitals serving Kern County residents showed that Bakersfield Heart Hospital had half the length of stay (LOS) & readmission rate of the second ranked hospital, San Joaquin Community Hospital. Dexur’s analytic criteria included hospitals that had greater than 5% market share across all inpatient discharges in Kern County. These hospitals were Bakersfield Heart Hospital (BHH), San Joaquin Community Hospital, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital & Mercy Hospital.

Stent Procedures at Bakersfield Heart Hospital Averaged the Lowest LOS for 30-Day Episode of Care with Unplanned Readmissions at 1.61 Days and All Readmissions at 1.64 Days

According to a recent analysis conducted by Dexur, three hospitals in California had average lengths of stay for 30-day episode of care under 2 days for both all readmissions and just unplanned readmissions of Medicare patients who had stent procedures. These three hospitals were Bakersfield Heart Hospital, Kaiser Permanente - Santa Clara Homestead Medical Center, and Mercy General Hospital. Bakersfield Heart Hospital led the state with the lowest average LOS of 1.61 days for a 30-day episode of care including unplanned readmissions of stent procedures patients and 1.64 days when including all readmissions of stent procedures. The 2nd ranking hospital was Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, which had an average LOS during a 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions of 1.82 days and for all readmissions of 1.95 days. Mercy General Hospital ranked 3rd overall in both categories with an average LOS of 1.93 days for a 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions of stent procedures and 1.96 days with all stent procedures readmissions.
