Dexur’s analysis of the Medicare Claims data from Q3 2016 to Q3 2019 revealed that Huntsville Hospital, AL, saw a decrease of 48.82% in Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Discharge Rate for DRG 470: Major Joint Replacement or Reattachment of Lower Extremity Without Major Complication or Comorbidity from Q3 2016 to Q3 2019. The SNF discharge rate decreased from 34.96 in Q3 2016 to 17.89 in Q3 2019. Huntsville Hospital’s SNF discharge rate was lesser than Alabama’s at 21.37% for Q3 2019. The national SNF discharge rate at 20.24 was higher than Huntsville Hospital for the same quarter.

Huntsville Hospital, serving as the regional referral center for North Alabama and Southern Tennessee, saw a 45.68% decrease from 34.96 in Q3 2016 to 18.99 in Q3 2017. However, from Q3 2017 to Q3 2018, the SNF discharge rate saw an increase of 7% from 18.99 to 20.32, respectively. Q3 2019 saw a drop in discharge rate from 20.32 in Q3 2018 to 17.89 in Q3 2019 by 11.95%.
