Dexur analysts recently examined intracranial hemorrhage or cerebral infarction Medicare discharge data from all U.S. physicians and found that Dr. Edith N. Aniedobe accounted for 109 discharges, more than any other U.S. physician during the analyzed time period. Dr. Edith Aniedobe practices at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland and was the only physician between October 2015 - September 2016 to account for over 100 discharges and one of only three physicians to account for 90 or more discharges. Dr. Scott Stuart Brehaut of Faxton - St. Luke’s Healthcare - St. Luke’s Campus in Utica, New York ranked 2nd and Dr. Andrei V. Alexandrov of Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee ranked 3rd. Dr. Brehaut and Dr. Alexandrov accounted for 96 and 93 discharges, respectively.

Intracranial hemorrhage or cerebral infarction discharges are comprised of three DRGs; DRG-064, DRG-065 and DRG-066 each with varying instances of complication, comorbidity, or tissue plasminogen activator (TPA). Medicare inpatient claims data from October 2015 to September 2016 was sourced from CMS and intracranial hemorrhage or cerebral infarction discharge data was collected for all U.S. physicians. Physicians were included in the final rankings if they accounted for 11 or more discharges during the timeframe; only 138 physicians across the entire U.S. met this criteria.

In Dr. Aniedobe’s practicing state of Maryland, the physician accounted for three times as many discharges as the next highest ranked physician during the analyzed time period; Dr. Sausheen Audia Taylor, who also practices at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital, ranked 2nd and accounted for 33 intracranial hemorrhage or cerebral infarction discharges and 0.5% of the relevant Maryland market share. For comparison, Dr. Aniedobe’s 99 discharges from Maryland Medicare enrollees gave the physician a 1.5% market share at the condition level.
