Dexur’s analysis of medicare claims of hospitals in North Alabama showed that Decatur Morgan Hospital, Dekalb Regional Medical Center, and Crestwood Medical Center had the lowest cost of care over a 90 day episode for Heart Failure. The episode of care tracks a patient journey from the date of admission for 90 days includes the index hospitalizations, rehospitalization, home health, nursing home and ED costs. Total cost of care helps patients make appropriate choices and helps ACOs such as Accountable Care Coalition of Alabama, LLC and Baptist Physician Alliance ACO LLC to make appropriate referrals choices. The analysis was risk adjusted and was done at the DRG level, specifically DRG 291 : HEART FAILURE AND SHOCK WITH MAJOR COMPLICATION OR COMORBIDITY (MCC), to adjust for complications and comorbidities.

A recent Dexur analysis of Medicare inpatient claims from CMS shows that Decatur Morgan Hospital - Decatur Campus had the lowest readmission rate in Alabama for intracranial hemorrhage or cerebral infarction discharges at 22.5% between 2013 - 2016. Marshall Medical Center North in Guntersville and Marshall Medical Center South in Boaz ranked 2nd and 3rd with respective readmission rates of 23.33% and 24.41%. Regional Medical Center - Anniston ranked 4th at 26.94% and Providence Hospital, located in Mobile, ranked 5th in the state with a readmission rate of 28.78%.

A Dexur analysis of 2016 Medicare inpatient discharges for alcohol, drug abuse, or dependence found that Decatur Morgan Hospital - Decatur Campus had the lowest average length of stay of all major Alabama hospitals with an average LOS of 2.58 days. DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa ranked 2nd with an average length of stay of 2.84 days and joined Decatur Morgan Hospital - Decatur as one of only two in-state facilities to report an average LOS under 3 days for this condition. Mobile Infirmary, located in Mobile, and UAB Hospital in Birmingham tied for the 3rd lowest average LOS at exactly 3 days and Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan ranked 5th at 3.61 days.
