Long Island Jewish Medical Center’s Rate of Admissions from the Emergency Department was 11% Higher than the National Rate in 2016

According to a recent analysis by Dexur using CMS administrative claims data from January through December 2016, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York had a higher rate of inpatients admitted from the ED than the state and nation by 1.88% and 10.65%, respectively.  Dexur identified discharges with the ED as a source of admission for each hospital category, and then compared the rates at the hospital, state, and national level.  This is a key metric to healthcare professionals as quality of care in the emergency department, is often reviewed for potential improvements considering the urgency; it may also be indicative of a patient population’s general health and access to medical care.
