Dexur examined Medicare Claims data from October 2016 to September 2019 to analyze the performance of the top skilled nursing facilities in the state of Missouri with respect to their expertise in handling Sepsis patients. The study revealed that the Village Care Center at John Knox Village recorded the highest number of stays for the condition during this period. Total Stays serves as a useful metric in assessing the quality of service provided by a health service provider as it reflects the experience possessed by the facility in handling a particular medical condition.

Between October 2016 and September 2019, Village Care Center at John Knox Village has registered a total of 115 stays for Sepsis. As per the regulations provided by WHO, the medical condition is classified into three Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), namely- DRG 871: SEPTICEMIA OR SEVERE SEPSIS WITHOUT MV > 96 HOURS WITH MAJOR COMPLICATION OR COMORBIDITY (MCC), DRG 872: SEPTICEMIA OR SEVERE SEPSIS WITHOUT MV > 96 HOURS WITHOUT MAJOR COMPLICATION OR COMORBIDITY (MCC), and DRG 870: SEPTICEMIA OR SEVERE SEPSIS WITH MV > 96 HOURS. Listing 27.7 percent fewer stays than Village Care Center at John Knox Village, Brooking Park ranks as the subsequent most sought after skilled nursing facility in the state for Sepsis, with 87 stays.
