Analysts from Dexur studied inpatient stent procedure discharge data between January 2013 - December 2016 and found that Venice Regional Bayfront Health in Venice, Florida had the lowest readmission rate for DRG-247 out of any major South Florida hospital with a readmission rate of 7.32%. NCH Baker Hospital in Naples ranked 2nd in South Florida with a readmission rate of 8.09%, Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale ranked 3rd with a readmission rate of 8.15%, Broward Health Medical Center, also in Fort Lauderdale, ranked 4th with a rate of 8.75% and Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Boca Raton ranked 5th with a 9.18% rate.

Hospitals were included in the rankings if the hospital accounted for at least 11 DRG-247 readmissions between January 2013 - December 2016 along with at least 3,500 total inpatient discharges in 2016. DRG-247 represents percutaneous cardiovascular procedures with drug-eluting stent without major complication or comorbidity; this diagnosis related group was the highest volume stent procedure DRG in 2016, where the 91,499 discharges were more than double the 41,227 DRG-246 (percutaneous cardiovascular procedures with drug-eluting stent with major complication or comorbidity or 4+ vessels or stents) discharges.

South Florida hospitals were analyzed, specifically, because the patient populations for these hospitals are likely similar. Comparisons at this regional level yield a more accurate representation than comparing a South Florida facility to a hospital in a different region, where patient demographics could be vastly different. Another Dexur article gives a more in-depth explanation of the value of regional level analyses. An analysis of the DRG-247 readmission rates for all Florida hospitals shows that Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola, in the northern region of Florida, had a readmission rate of 6.74%; Sacred Heart was the only hospital in Florida to report a lower readmission rate than Venice Regional Bayfront Health and NCH Baker Hospital throughout the time period.
