Dexur utilized Medicare Claims data from October 2016 to September 2019 to list the top 10 skilled nursing facilities recording the least Length of Stay (LOS) for Hip & Knee Replacement patients in the state of North Carolina. The study revealed that Transylvania Regional Hospital, Brevard, recorded the lowest value for the average length of stay for the condition during this period. Length of Stay serves as a critical metric to assess the quality of service provided by the health care provider. Generally, a facility that records a shorter length of stay for a medical condition is considered to possess better care efficiency in handling that condition.

The conditions related to Hip & Knee Replacement has been classified into two DRGs- DRG 470: MAJOR JOINT REPLACEMENT OR REATTACHMENT OF LOWER EXTREMITY WITHOUT MAJOR COMPLICATION OR COMORBIDITY (MCC), and DRG 469: MAJOR JOINT REPLACEMENT OR REATTACHMENT OF LOWER EXTREMITY WITH MAJOR COMPLICATION OR COMORBIDITY (MCC). It is to be noted that only the risk-adjusted values of the average LOS for DRG 470 was taken into consideration for this study. For the same period, the risk-adjusted average length of stay for DRG 470, recorded at Transylvania Regional Hospital, is 7.24 vis-à-vis a total of 72 stays recorded for Hip & Knee Replacement. With an average LOS of 8.22 against 128 stays recorded for the condition, Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center ranked second in the state. With 10.08 and 10.64 average LOSs for DRG 470, Salemtowne and White Oak Of Waxhaw follow in the third and fourth positions, respectively. Registering a total of 71 stays and an average LOS of 12.09 for the condition, The Laurels Of GreenTree Ridge ranks fifth.
