St. Bernard Hospital Registers the Lowest SNF Discharge Rate in Illinois for DRG 871 from Q4 2016 to Q3 2019

Dexur analyzed the Medicare Claims data from Oct 2016 to Sep 2019 and found that St. Bernard Hospital recorded the lowest Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Discharge Rate of 10.31 in Illinois for DRG 871: Septicemia or Severe Sepsis Without MV >96 Hours with Major Complication or Comorbidity, from Q4 2016 to Q3 2019.

Located in Chicago, Illinois, St. Bernard Hospital, referred 13 out of 126 patients with an SNF rate of 10.31, which is significantly lower than the state and national averages of 30.70 and 26.62, respectively, for DRG 871 during the aforementioned period. From Oct 2016 to Sep 2019, out of the total 79,444 discharges in Illinois, 24,394 transfers were made into SNFs with a 30.70 discharge rate. Nationally, 497,004 patients were transferred into SNFs from a total of 1,866,898 with a 26.62 discharge rate. The data were evaluated for patients concerning DRG 871, only.

Roseland Community Hospital, Chicago, ranked second in the state with a discharge rate of 12.87, derived from 13 SNF transfers out of 101 hospital discharges. Third-ranked, University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System saw an SNF discharge rate of 13.63, with 33 SNF transfers from 242 hospitalizations. Crossroads Community Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital were ranked 3rd and 4th, with 13.88 and 15.53 SNF discharge rate respectively. The graph below depicts the hospitals with the lowest SNF discharge rate for DRG 871 from Q4 2016 to Q3 2018.

The overall SNF rate, considering all DRGs of St. Bernard Hospital for the stated period, stands at 3.96, derived from a total of 3,756 patients. The national and state averages for this particular period were instrumentally higher at 19.09 and 22.72, respectively.
