Analysts from Dexur recently identified all heart attack discharges accounted for by Georgia physicians in 2016 and found that Dr. Osaguona Osa, of Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, reported 28 discharges, the most of any physician in the state. Dr. Raymond Kostromin, of St. Francis Hospital in Columbus ranked 2nd with 20 discharges. Dr. Tushar Shah, who practices at Redmond Regional Medical Center along with top ranked Dr. Osa, ranked 3rd with 19 discharges. Dr. Raul Roberto Blanco, of Piedmont Atlanta, ranked 4th with 18 discharges, while Dr. Samuel O. Teniola of WellStar Atlanta Medical Center and Dr. Daniel T. Valancius of Floyd Medical Center in Rome tied for 5th with 17 discharges.

Physicians in Georgia were included in the rankings if they accounted for at least 11 total heart attack discharges between January - December 2016. Heart attack discharges are made up of six diagnosis related groups; DRG-280, DRG-281, DRG-282, DRG-283, DRG-284, and DRG-285. Each DRG refers to acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) with varying degrees of complications or comorbidities and the indication of the patient being alive or expired (deceased).

Dexur analysts also examined heart attack discharges from Georgia physicians between January 2013 and December 2016 and found that, yet again, Redmond Regional Medical Center’s Dr. Osa and Dr. Shah ranked 1st and 3rd in discharge volume, respectively. During this four year time period, Dr. Osa reported 66 discharges while Dr. Shah reported 42. Piedmont Atlanta’s Dr. Blanco only ranked 4th in 2016 alone but ranked 2nd in volume between 2013-2016 with 43 discharges. Dr. Kostromin of St. Francis Hospital ranked 4th with 39 discharges while Dr. Robi Goswami of Piedmont Atlanta ranked 5th with 38.
