Dexur analysts recently examined Medicare discharge data from CMS between 2013-2016 and found that Dr. Rajesh Agarwal, of Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, accounted for 286 pneumonia discharges, the most of any Ohio physician. During the four year period, Dr. Agarwal also treated patients at Select Specialty Hospital - Cleveland Fairhill in Cleveland, Regency North Central Ohio - Cleveland East in Warrensville Heights, and South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights. Dr. Harbhajan S. Parmar of West Medical Center in Willoughby ranked 2nd with 214 discharges and joined Dr. Agarwal as the only physicians in the state with over 200 pneumonia discharges. Dr. Gohar Ghazarian of Galion Hospital in Galion ranked 3rd with 140 discharges while Dr. Rocky E. Pittman of Hillsdale Hospital in Hillsdale ranked 4th with 137. Dr. Ajay Chawla of OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital in Mansfield rounded out the top five with 135 discharges, just behind Dr. Pittman.
Pneumonia is comprised of three different diagnosis related groups (DRG-193, DRG-194, and DRG-195). The top 50 highest volume physicians for pneumonia discharges in Ohio between 2013-2016 were included in the rankings and each of the analyzed physicians accounted for at least 67 total pneumonia discharges. With the exception of the 2nd ranked Dr. Parmar, Dr. Agarwal reported over twice as many Medicare inpatient discharges for pneumonia as any other Ohio physician during the analyzed time period.
Dr. Agarwal also led all physicians in discharge volume for DRG-194, specifically, with 129 discharges and ranked 2nd in volume for DRG-193 with 119 discharges. The top volume physician for DRG-193 was Dr. Parmar, who accounted for 150 discharges. For the year of 2016 alone, Dr. Agarwal ranked 1st in total pneumonia discharge volume with 47 discharges. Dr. Agarwal also ranked highest in DRG-194 discharge volume in 2016 with 23 discharges.
