A Dexur analysis of stent procedure discharges between 2013-2016 shows that Medicare inpatients at NYU Langone Health's Tisch Hospital in New York City averaged 1.79 days in the hospital for a 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions, the lowest rate in New York state. Two other New York City facilities ranked 2nd and 3rd as Lenox Hill Hospital ranked just behind Tisch Hospital at 1.81 days while The Mount Sinai Hospital ranked 3rd at 1.84 days. Unity Hospital in Rochester ranked 4th at 2.22 days and Crouse Hospital in Syracuse ranked 5th at 2.49 days. These five hospitals were the only in-state facilities with an average LOS for a 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions under two and a half days.

Average LOS for a 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions is comprised of hospital length of stay for the index hospital stay plus any days spent in the hospital over the first 30 days post-discharge due to an unplanned readmission. An unplanned readmission is defined as inpatient stay in which the patient was readmitted through the emergency department. However, it should be noted that patients are not always readmitted to the index hospital for subsequent stays. Indiana hospitals were included in the rankings if they accounted for at least 50 DRG-247 (Percutaneous Cardiovascular Procedures With Drug-Eluting Stent Without Major Complication or Comorbidity) discharges between January 2013 - December 2016. Discharges where the patient expired, was transferred, or was discharged against medical advice were not included in the totals.

Along with ranking 1st in the state for lowest average LOS for a 30-day episode of care with unplanned readmissions, Tisch Hospital also ranked 3rd among the 55 analyzed hospitals for average LOS for a 30-day episode of care with all readmissions at 1.97 days, right behind Lenox Hill Hospital and The Mount Sinai Hospital, which tied for the top rank at 1.96 days. All readmissions include unplanned readmissions as well as planned follow-up visits and any other inpatient readmissions. Tisch Hospital's 1.61 day average LOS for the index hospital stay ranked 2nd lowest in the state and contributed significantly to their strong 30-day episode of care metrics. Anther major contributor to these metrics was the hospital's readmission rate. Their unplanned readmission rate of 4.51% ranked 2nd while their 6.97% readmission rate for all readmissions ranked 4th.
