Four cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons affiliated with Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Meyers, FL were among the highest-ranked doctors in the state in their specialties.
Dr. Arcement is an interventional cardiologist. He performed more stent procedures than any other surgeon in Lee County from 2013-2017, based on an analysis of inpatient Medicare claims data. This also places him in the top 75 in the entire United States in this highly competitive specialty.
Dr. Arcement was recently named to the American Health Council Board of Physicians for his outstanding contributions.
In addition to performing cardiovascular interventions, Dr. Arcement helps patients with the lifestyle factors that lead to poor cardiovascular health. He has written “I now see weight management as a vital component in long-term health.”
Cardiothoracic surgeon Brian Hummel performed more cardiac valve and cardiothoracic procedures than any other surgeon in Lee County.
Dr. Hummel placed in the top 4 in Florida state-wide for these procedures, based on an analysis of inpatient Medicare claims over a five year period from 2013 to 2017. Research has shown that physician case volume is positively associated with better quality outcomes.
Dr. Hummel has served as president of the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons. He led the first and 500th TAVR procedures at the Shipley Cardiothoracic Center, treating hundreds of patients with aortic stenosis that was previously considered inoperable.
On top of his duties as Cardiothoracic Surgery Section Chief, Dr. Paul DiGiorgi performed more cardiac valve and cardiothoracic procedures than any other surgeon in Lee County except his colleague Brian Hummel. He also ranked 8th in Florida overall for these procedures, based on an analysis of inpatient Medicare claims from 2013 to 2017.
Dr. DiGiorgi ranked 8th in Florida overall for cardiac valve and cardiothoracic procedures, and in the top 50 for coronary bypass procedures.
In a 2017 interview, Dr. DiGiorgi described the benefits of his experience with Lee County's demographic. “We perform surgeries successfully that others do not even attempt on high-risk cases due to advanced age. We, however, are very comfortable operating on these people because our demographic provides us with great experience, as 20% of our patients are over the age of 80. I recently performed successful surgeries on two 89-year-olds, and that is pretty crazy to a lot of my colleagues elsewhere, as they don't do those surgeries that to us are routine.”
Dr. Randall Buss is in the top 40 coronary bypass surgeons in the entire United States, and top 3 in Florida, based on an analysis of inpatient Medicare claims from 2013 to 2017.
Lee Physician Group earned the highest possible rating for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons - an achievement only about 10% of providers reach. Dr. Buss performed the most CABG procedures on Medicare inpatients of any Lee Physician Group surgeon, from 2013-2017.
